I can't handle a protective style right now My head is so tender that I'm afraid I'd have a crying fit getting my hair braided or twisted. It's pretty bad now.

MinimalYea, it is hard moisturize under a weave. You can use a squirt bottle to put oil in your scalp, that's what I do. As for braids, you can request that they not braid them too tight, just don't keep them in too long. When you have too much new growth that can cause breakage. Do you use anything when you do your twist outs? I use various creams or gels to hold curls. Do you do it on wet/damp hair?

I'm not usually tender headed, but the last weave I had when my mom did the braids my head was pulsating. I was on the verge of tears...went away after a few hours and Ibuprofen. Supposedly you can use peppermint oil to stop the pain. I haven't tried it.

Didn't know new growth could cause breakage with braids installed. I have tried a combination of different products. Just recently I used the TGIN Daily Moisturizing Cream + Eco Styler Gel for Color Treated Hair (Level 5 Hold). I apply the cream then a very small amount of gel to smooth over before twisting. I don't have color treated hair, but I like this version because it leaves a soft hold. The cream by itself does get the job done, but the gel increases the amount of definition and time between restyling. I will try to snap a picture of my hair and post it here. I always do my twist-outs on damp hair.

I always do my twist-outs on damp hair. It's because of the weight. It's pulling the hair down and can cause breakage, plus your manipulating the braids by putting them up and back. I have fine hair so I can wear my braids as long as other people can. I have to be very careful with my hair because it's fragile. I cant wait to see this pic. I'm not sure why your hair doesn't hold the twist outs as easily. Sometimes I do a twist out in soaking wet hair then sleep with a towel on my pillow. my hair isn't always fully dry in the am it's damp. So I wake up band the twists (to elongate) then sit under a hooded bonnet attachment until it's dry or just blow dry the banded sections. It's a bit of a process, for me there is a slight difference. I just started using Shea moisturizer curl smoothie it doesn't work as well as kinky curly curling custard, but it's doesn't leave flakes in my hair like KC does. I have Eco-styler aloe it's green. I tried a twist out once with it but didn't like it....maybe I didn't do it right though. I should try it again. My hair was kinda crunchy. It is as a while ago.

blackonblackI have fine hair too Awesome, so I have nothing to worry about. This is how my hair looks after applying the TGIN Daily Butter and Gel. This is day 4 hair. I plan on restyling it tonight it feels a little dry. You can see some sections that have the twistout look and others just look like my regular hair normal hair texture. I hope these pictures suffice. My hair is literally a cloud of curls and my front facing camera cannot capture too much definition. Is the green gel a level 10? Maybe try for a lighter hold gel. Did you use the gel by itself or with another product?

blackonblack The Daily Moisturizer is $14.99 for a 12oz jar, which lasts almost 2 months for me. Actually nearly all of their products are $14.99 except the Deep Conditioning Hair Mask (12oz/$17.99) if you buy it at Sally's or Target. They usually have promos going on on their site around holidays (http://tginstore.3dcartstores.com/hair_c_1.html) Admin YAAAS 4a-bangers! /high-five

What are good color yet unique color options for someone of this color with an angular face and short hair? Think Solange boy short when she first cut her hair. I want to dye it but I don't really want to do blond.

MelaninMonroe are you thinking natural human hair colors or is any fine? A dark purple or blue could always work if you want to ease yourself in to non-natural colors.

I started transitioning in April '15 & finally big chopped in early June of this year.
I have high porosity fine 4c hair & moisturizing every night is K E Y for me.
My hair grows very fast but I've been having trouble with my ends lately.
The good comments on my hair outweigh the rude comments I consistently receive, thank God.
Overall, this is a learning progress for me.....I'm in love with my natural hair & cantu's leave-in conditioner is a life saver lol.

Did a big chop a few months back. Regret it because I still can't find the time or energy to take care of it. What a mess.
