AdminI had yarn faux locs, the only issue is when you burn the ends they don't look natural. The burnt ends turn brownish yellow, but it was still cute. The Marley hair looks more natural, but in the long run the Marley costs more. Yarn is very very cheap. You need like 2-3 big bundles of yarn that are like $2 each at Walmart. Those packs are enough to braid your hair and then wrap it. I've haven't done Marley, but I've seen YouTube vids. It looks more natural. The yarn can fool a lot of people though. If you do Marley you can braid your hair with regular cheap braiding hair then buy the packs of Marley to wrap it.

Okay thanks for the good info!
I was thinking of getting the front of my hair braided with fake hair, then the back could be out, but I don't think the beauty supply stores around me don't carry synthetic hair that doesn't tangle/mat easily or looks real. Plus my hair is not jet black so all of that would not be so easy to hide.

My hair is a 1b which is basically dark dark brown. It looks black until the light hits it. You might be the same color.
You could try ordering hair online...I've never done that before though.

I don't braid very fast, and that was my first time doing braids myself. They weren't very long, but it was my first time doing anything like that to my hair which explains the time.

Good thing I want to do them short this time around. Three days though? Ugh. I'm not looking forward to it but I really do want to try them out. I'll just have to find a weekend I'm free to do it. I've always preferred the marley look over the yarn look. Oh I see. I helped a friend out with her locs and I know it took her around the same time as well. I think it's better to pace yourself than rush anyways.

I want to know if the hair the YouTuber peakmill uses for her line of wigs is good for braiding. It looks like pretty nice quality hair!

I've been natural for 3 years. I am type 4a.
My initial goal was to try to get my hair back into a healthy and reach waist length. I have been natural since 6 or 7 yrs of age and always had long hair, but my last relaxer as a teenager wrecked havoc on my hair. It literally broke off from bra strap length to neck length =| Soon after, I attempted to follow a healthy hair regimen while keeping my hair relaxed (I relaxed every 6 months), and my hair began breaking off again.
So I decided to transition to fully natural. I transitioned for 2 years. I couldn't even trim my relaxed ends off, they just broke off

I've been natural for 6 or 7 years. I really just try to focus on hair health. I've cut my hair short several times, so I wish I had more length, but that's ok. My hair is 3b/c and a little bit of 4a in the back. I really can't complain-- it's not that hard to deal with. I have a lot of issues with frizz tho. My hair straightens very easily either blow drying or using a flat iron. I prefer to have it professionally done if it's straightened because I'm honestly scared of burning it myself. Even though I don't put the flat iron over 300 degrees. I wish that my mom had been more adept at doing hair. She worked so my sister and I have had relaxers since we were little people. She isn't good at doing hair and was frustrated trying to keep our hair done and getting to work/school on time. I really want to get box braids as a protective style. I've done weaves before as well. I got a lot of length out of it, but I don't think I should've been doing weaves back to back. I should've left my hair breath for awhile in between. But that's ok. Live and learn!

I never really thought about ordering hair offline. Most of the time I just walk into stores for hair, but I will look into this for sure. Do you use AliXpress? I always hear people talking about that site! I've been natural for 3 years. I am type 4a. My initial goal was to try to get my hair back into a healthy and reach waist length. I have been natural since 6 or 7 yrs of age and always had long hair, but my last relaxer as a teenager wrecked havoc on my hair. I couldn't even trim my relaxed ends off, they just broke off  Was there something in those particular relaxers that your hair didn't agree with? That's terrible! Also can you tell me the name of that natural hair line you use again? I forgot it that fast. I've been natural for 6 or 7 years. I really just try to focus on hair health. I've cut my hair short several times, so I wish I had more length, but that's ok. My hair is 3b/c and a little bit of 4a in the back. I really can't complain-- it's not that hard to deal with. Live and learn! I see a lot of people giving their little girls relaxers because of lack of time It's sad, but I understand it. Do you have a favorite hairstyle when you get braids or weaves?

AdminI haven't used Alleyexpress. I've heard of it though. I've thought about ordering bundles online because beauty supply hair that is supposed to virgin remi isn't always what they claim it to be. There are vendors online and those that advertise on Instagram that people say have good hair...some more expensive than others (human hair). There are sites you can order synthetic hair from too. I haven't ordered online myself though...

I have my reservations on human hair because I'm personally creeped out by it, so synthetic is my go-to.

I dont remember when I big chopped (didnt keep track) but I feel like I am going on my 5th yr being natural.During that time I have colored it and big chopped again to remove the color. Right now it is going better and LOOKS wayy better than it ever did. When I stretch my curls, it's down to my clavicle. Unstretched, no where past ear lobe. Got some tight arse curls. 3C4A sprinkled 4B

On top of that, my hair like to tangle a lot. Do you do permanent dye or temporary? I think I would probably do temporary because I'm too lazy to start over. Or one of those chalk kits!

It was permant. Spent like $200 (smh at myself) to get it done. It's because my hair is so thick, I needed like 4 mixed bottles of it. I think it was called "balayage". Color came out bomb but it was too expensive for my blood. And I personally think you should try the chalk kit because I plan on doing the same! Need to figure out how it reacts due to humidity because I can imagine when it rains smh.
