They brought back the [HASH]OscarsSoWhite hashtag on Twitter, so yep they left out some people.
I haven't seen most of the movies nominated, but I did see Cinderella. I don't think they should have been nominated for costume/design because the one beautiful dress they had in the movie was aided by special effects. Did they not nominated Star Wars for more awards because it was still new at the time or are they being shady again? This will be a boring awards show.

There's a deadline and if they didn't send the movie by that deadline...welp. They should have, especially with the rave reviews but they always have next year. I'm not surprised the awards are white washed. :side-eye:

Did you see Jada Smith's call (or should I say suggestion so she can employ plausible deniability) for a boycott this year? :skull: It's obvious she only cares because Will wasn't nominated.

What I hate even more is when certain AAs pick and choose when to care and become outraged. It doesn't work that way. Will's accent in that Concussion movie...no thank you. Lol let's keep it at "suggestion" for now. That's another reason why I believe the awards are bought. Sometimes, it seems they just hand out certain awards/noms to black people like "Here you go. Now shut up." It doesn't always feel authentic.

MelaninMonroe looking back, it never truly has felt authentic coming from the Academy. Besides that, most of the Black Oscar winning roles are actors in subservient or degrading positions i.e. 12 Years A Slave or Training Day.

Never watched this show and I doubt I ever will. It seems boring. I watch the Grammy's though. I'm not a big movie person though.

Black actors and actresses need to forget about all these award shows. They've lost their prestige and value with the way they hand them off to anyone who gives it up or pays the right amount of cash. It's not about talent, work ethic, TALENT. They need to continue being artists, doing what they love and reaching out to their fans not The Academy who doesn't give a damn about them. That whole system is tainted. I don't care about any of the award shows. I only stay on the threads.

I have not watched the Oscars in years, and even when I did I could not sit through the entire thing. I am not a big movie person either, but the playlists I have on my phone are all filled with film scores and soundtracks  The only genre of movies I can sit and watch are animated ones. I usually read along in threads about awards shows though. I am more interested in the banter and photos

I see so many Black people (celebs included) on social media getting angry when someone suggests we create our own prestigious awards show or improve and boost up the ones we already have. It's really funny to me! Psychology is no joke.. Minimal blackonblack Remember when Ellen hosted a few years back and ordered pizza for all the carb deficient celebs? I thought that shit was so tacky! It's all a big ass game of how much adoration the Academy can get from social media (specifically Tumblr).

I saw the clips of that. White supremacy is a trip. Even if black actors and actresses tried to start one I'm sure someone would snitch to put a stop to it similar to how black artists and execs tried to start their own record distribution label and someone black snitched.

blackonblack Yes LOL! Ellen did about two or three selfies during the ceremony alone, and a few before and after that. One of the selfies was posted to Twitter and she asked her followers/Twitter to make it the most retweeted tweet on there. I'm not sure if it broke the record or not, but looking back that shit was mad stupid. I agree with that too. We literally cannot have shit.

I hear what y'all are saying but I actually think the Oscars are important. Yes, they are bullshit in the sense that they certainly aren't the end all and be all of who is talented vs. who isn't or what was a good film vs. a great one. But that's always been the case. However, we can't deny that they give credence to films because it's the industry's highest award. I think often they just vote based on the way they hear other Academy members are voting. The other problem is films have to have substantial financial backing in order to do campaigns so they can advertise and send screeners to all Academy members. If an indie can't afford to send out screeners, there's virtually no way members will see it. They aren't gonna go to the movies when everyone else is sending them DVDs!
I think we need way more black folks in talent agencies, in the executive suites at studios, and more encouragement of ppl to write and direct. We know the talent is out there. But one of the big issues is visibility/opportunity.
If ppl want to boycott the show, I guess. Would it be more powerful though to not support the movies at all? You know these ppl only care about dollars and cents...
