Even though it was straight out of the City of Light for the first time and filled with loads of Lady Gaga, the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (2.1/7) just could not pack on the ratings weight last night. In fact, the lingerie catwalk show hit a new low among adults 18-49.
While just ahead of The Voice (2.0/7) to be the top rated show of the night in the key demo among the Big 4, Victoria’s dirty secret is that the ratings are down 9% in the key demo from 2015’s previous low.Viewershipwise, this year’s VSFS had 6.65 million eyeballs, basically the same as the 6.6 million who watched last year. While nowhere near the drop from the Talyor Swift starring 2014 to 2015 that VSFS suffered, the struggle for the fashion show is now compounded by multi-year falls in the key ad-rich demo.
Not that the rest of CBS’ night was stellar either with Kevin Can Wait (1.5/5) the same as its last original and both Man with a Plan (1.2/4) and 2 Broke Girls (1.2/4) down.
Down was also the final verdict for Monday Night Football last night too. ESPN still will likely win the night though NBC looks poised for victory among the Big 4 with a 1.7/6 and 8.39 million viewers, thanks to Voice being even with last week andTimeless (1.2/4) up 9% over its November 28.
However, with the Indianapolis Colts decimating the New York Jets 41-10 on MNFlast night, the ESPN NFL flagship took a real ratings hit. The primetime match-up pulled in a mere 6.0 rating in metered market results. While not a low this season forMNF, the rating is one of the worst ESPN has managed to score this year. In a season that has been full of NFL ratings declines, last night’s MNF was also down a very hard 33% from last week’s Green Bay Packers 27-13 beating of the Philadelphia Eagles 27-13.
Last night’s MNF game was shown on ABC affiliates in NYC and Indianapolis so expect adjustments for the Disney-owned network –adjustments likely downward. With that in mind, The Great Christmas Light Fight (1.3/4) was up a tenth from last year in fast affiliates and the fall finale of Conviction (0.8/3) was down two tenths for the perpetually struggling show.
Fox’s special Steve Harvey fronted Showtime at the Apollo (1.1/4) was on par with what Gotham and Lucifier averaged in the slot last week. Undoubtedly Exhausted from its mega-crossover last week and heading into winter finales this week, the CW was all Supergirl encores last night.
