Jay-Z wants Harry Styles to sign with his label
Roc Nation boss Jay Z has got his eyes on Harry Styles, and has reportedly promised to make him “the biggest artist in the world”.
The music mogul, who has mentored the likes of Rihanna, Shakira and Kanye West, has vowed to give Harry the help he needs to forge a solo career.
"Harry doesn't need any help with exposure, everybody in the world knows who he is,” he reportedly told The Daily Star Sunday.
"But he does need to make the transition from being part of a group to becoming an individual artist.
"I can get him working with the bigger artists, the biggest producers - and have him as the biggest artist in the world within a year."
Harry, 21, who has recently been seen kissing Kendall Jenner, has been working hard on his solo material and recently registered new songs with ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers).
The songs - titled 5378 Miles, Already Home, Coco and Endlessly – sparked speculation that he was ready to step out on his own after teaming with alongside Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid and dance producer Gary Go.
One Direction are currently on a hiatus after being in the band for five years with Simon Cowell as their boss with label Syco.
But Jay Z doesn’t necessarily want to cut X Factor boss Simon out of the deal, as he targets Hary.
The hip hop icon and Tidal star reportedly told the newspaper that Harry is an ideal star for a partnership.
"I would love to sign Harry. Simon is going to want to carry on working with him, of course. But we could do a joint venture - we both have big qualities we can bring to the table,” he said.
"And Harry can make more than enough money for everybody to get a piece of the pie."
Harry might be wary of a partnership after his pal, Rita Ora, recently filed a lawsuit against Roc Nation.
The star has been fighting Jay Z ’s record label Roc Nation in court in an attempt to be released from her contract with the company.
The singer, 25, who hasn’t released an album in three years, is presenting herself as “orphaned” by the label , which she says has been preoccupied with ventures such as the streaming service Tidal and sports management.
In papers filed at LA’s Superior Court, her attorney lashed out at the “diminished” company’s “revolving door” of executives, and describes her relationship as “irrevocably damaged”.
Rita, who signed to Roc Nation in 2008, claims she funded her own video shoots, recording costs and promotional TV appearances, and alleges the company has become inattentive.
A source said: “She’s recorded at least three albums' worth of material.”
Rita is accusing the label of violating a Californian code that says entertainment professionals cannot be contractually obliged to perform services more than seven years after a deal is made.
Roc Nation did not return requests for a comment.
