All I wanna see is Mads and everyone is saying there ain't a lot of him. Even in the press junkets and promos he is not in them much.
It was a lot of fun! But MAN was Mads Mikkelson and Chiwetel Ejifor underutilized. So, yes complaints about the script are valid. Mordor and Kaecilius lacked depth. So did the entire film actually when I think about it. DS is also shorter than most of the Marvel films and feels it. The writers were in too much of a rush to get Strange from point A to B, IMHO.
That didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the film however. The core cast and visual effects are what cement the movie and what make spending 20 bucks worth while. I highly recommend IMAX because the 3D conversion is excellent!
Now, onto some specifics starting with Tilda Swinton.
UGH! She didn't fit the role. Sure this Ancient One was Celtic in this version of Doctor Strange (and there was some weak explanation of there being one before her that was Japanese) but everything about her just didn't fit. It's because of the Nepal setting which is of course ASIAN. Thankfully, she won't be in the next film and won't be a distraction. And I will say her final scene with Strange was pretty darn good.
Already touched upon Mads and Chiwetel briefly. Even though they didn't have much to work with both were good in their prospective roles and moved the plot along as best as they could.
Rachel McAdams.. Could have been anyone in the Night Nurse role to be honest. She did have a very moving scene with Benedict however that really conveyed how much of an asshole Strange was.
Benedict Wong. This guy is an excellent actor and I am glad he's getting more work. His screen presence didn't go to waste here which makes me look forward to seeing him in another DS movie.
Lastly, Benedict Cumberbatch. He IS Doctor Strange. I must admit I was worried about his American accent at first because it was abhorrent in Black Mass. Thankfully he made some major improvements. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM AND LOKI ON SCREEN TOGETHER. AAAAAAH!
Now, I'm sure some of you have read about the two after credit scenes. The first was good the second. Meh. I feel as if Doctor Strange and Mordor are going to have this Loki/Thor relationship. Been there done that. So meh again.
The audience had a really great time. There was a lot of applause and cheers - even for Tilda Swinton, which surprised me. And I think people are finally getting it. No one left the theater until the credits had ended.
Already purchased a ticket to see it again but in REAL IMAX. There was a lot thrown in Doctor Strange. Easter eggs and the like that I didn't catch the first time but will during a second viewing.
