A short video for those interested on the history of how swearing was introduced in movies. I recall an instructor of mine very briefly discussing this in a Film History course in college and it was interesting. I wish this video was longer though. I wish they also focused on cursing in animated films. I believe movies rated as PG-13 are allowed to say 1 swear word (like damn, ass, fcuk etc). 2 or more curse words means the animated film needs to be classified as Rated-R
There is cursing, so either listen with headphones or in a safe space /dead

That was very interesting! I too wish it had been longer and went into more detail on animations. They pulled no punches back in the day, no matter how much senior citizens try to say they were proper and dainty. Exhibit A:
Anyway, this movie reminded me of my very strange attraction to Clark Gable as Rhett. As racist as the movie (and book) was, I still really like both. Especially the book! Scarlett was a straight trash bitch.

Just hearing the n-word spoken by non-blacks in a demeaning way makes me cringe. I watched The Shining for the first time in that same Film History course, and hearing Jack N. saying the n-word made me not even enjoy the remainder of the movie. Good thing he froze to death at the end :giggle: I need to step up my literature game tbh.

Minimal Let me add The Shining to my list. I'm trying to remember if I have seen it before. You said it's not very good because his character is so racist? Should I watch it at all then? I don't really enjoy overly racist characters, even in movies based on real life. It always makes me want to burn something down. You might enjoy Gone With The Wind if you haven't before.

There was one black male character in the movie, and there relationship appeared amiable. But when Nicholson was experiencing his delusions in this one bathroom scene, it just made me feel a certain way about Nicholson, period. I am not sure if there are any reports of him being racist IRL, but if there were I would not be surprised. It is still a good movie, you should watch it. I liked it because of the use of duality and symmetry throughout the movie.

This was interesting. Especially the kids cartoon in the beginning.
